For Grown-ups
Children notice when a book is talking down to them, and they stop listening. Simple language, real ideas — those aren't opposites.
Rhyme and rhythm are written for the adult's mouth, not just the child's ear. If it's awkward on the fourth reading, it isn't done.
Every title leaves a question on the table. The book ends; the conversation between you and your kid doesn't have to.
